Do you support or work for a nonprofit that helps protect the environment or promotes sustainability? Whether it’s a small local group or a national one, this month you have the opportunity to help it get recognized in GreatNonprofits’ 2012 Green Awards!
GreatNonprofits has launched the awards, working with MOTHER EARTH NEWS, Environmental Volunteers and the World Wildlife Fund to identify and publicize top-rated nonprofits focusing on environmental issues in their neighborhood or around the globe.
Organizations that receive 10 positive reviews by April 30 will earn the title of “2012 Top-Rated Green Nonprofit.” GreatNonprofits will also syndicate your group’s reviews to partner websites such as GuideStar, JustGive and Charity Navigator and provide a Top-Rated badge for your website.
It’s a great opportunity for organizations to reach out to volunteers, clients and donors to share their stories about your work. And if you’ve had a personal experience with a nonprofit, your story is useful feedback and helps inform other donors and volunteers.
A story is a great way to inform and inspire potential supporters and concretely communicate the nonprofit’s impact. The most compelling stories are told by people who see their work firsthand — as a volunteer, community member or existing donor. In a recent survey, 84 percent of donors said reviews were helpful in deciding whether to give to the nonprofit.
We’re in full swing with the Green Awards. So far, 25 green organizations have qualified for an award and 90 more are getting reviews. There’s still plenty of time to participate: It takes just three minutes to write a review, and nonprofits can Facebook, Tweet or email their volunteers and donors to ask them to write a review.
Here’s how you can get started:
Individuals: Review your favorite green nonprofit
Nonprofit staff: Register your nonprofit and start inviting reviews
Remember the April 30 deadline!
