Five (Guilt-Free) Things I Want for Christmas

Hard to believe it’s almost time to start making (and checking) Christmas wish lists. WorldofGood.com by eBay, a website dedicated to promoting ethical shopping, makes my wish list easy. The site sells products made using ethical labor and eco-friendly practices—all verified by third-party certification. Here are five World of Good products that I wouldn’t mind seeing under my tree.

1. Round Birdhouse ($14)

This birdhouse, made of sustainably harvested materials and sold by Fair Trade Winds, is produced through the Community Crafts Association (CCA) of the Philippines. The CCA assists community-based artisans by providing training programs and markets. CCA weavers use locally sourced fibers such as bamboo and other vines and grasses, and the product is certified by Green America, a national nonprofit that aims to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society through economic power.

2. Heirloom Coffee Orca Blend ($11)

I’m a hopeless coffee addict, but I like to feed my need with ethically sourced beans. Heirloom Coffee’s rich, earthy Orca Blend is organic and fair trade, sourced through The Vashon Island Coffee Foundation, a nonprofit that assists indigenous families. A portion of coffee sales helps preserve and recover the endangered Puget Sound Orca whale. This product is also certified by Green America.

3. Hand-Painted Tablecloth ($60)

This natural fiber, indigenous art tablecloth was made by Marilia Guimaraes of Brasil BioDesigns and certified by C.E.O. of Women, an organization that offers programs to increase women’s economic self-sufficiency.

4. Kenyan Hand-Carved Olive Wood Spoons ($17)

Each pair of these spoons is handcrafted by the Kamba men in Kenya using techniques that have been passed down for generations by Kibilan craftsmen. Sold through Lwanga Designs, this product is certified by anewamerica, an organization that promotes the economic empowerment of new Americans including immigrants, refugees and new citizens.

5. Natural Cube End Table in Natural Tung Oil ($139)

This product is certified by the Sustainable Furnishings Council, a nonprofit collaboration of retailers, manufacturers and consumers that promotes sustainable furniture practices.
