Itching to get out and shake off the cabin fever? Go ahead and brush the dust off your spring hiking boots and get ready to hit the trail. Spending time in nature is one of the best ways to find solitude, explore and enjoy the landscape where you live. Before you hit the trail, make a plan and be prepared for all kinds of weather. Hiking

Viewer Tip: After you’re familiar with the trail that you will be hiking, make sure you pack enough food and water for the duration of the time that you will be out. Pack enough clothing. In the mountains, weather can be unpredictable and temperatures will drop as you climb to higher elevations. Other essentials include: map, compass, flashlight or headlamp, matches, first aid kit, whistle, rain gear and a pocket knife. Also, keep in mind that technology is not reliable in the mountains – make sure you let someone who is not hiking with you know your plan and make sure everyone in your hiking group agrees with the plan.
