If the thought of DIY deodorant brings to mind images of sweaty pits, stank stenches, and much-too-closeNatural Homemade Deodorant Recipe quarters, you’re not alone. Worth noting, however: The aluminum found in most over-the-counter deodorants has been linked to cancer, and there’s only so much “powder scent” a person can take.

Solution: a homemade, aluminum-free deodorant. We’ve done our road testing and found one that is decidedly not the pits. Try it!

Deodorant Ingredients

1⁄2 c aluminum-free baking soda or cornstarch
1⁄2 c arrowroot
coconut oil
20 drops skin-friendly essential oil like lavender or rosemary
small bowl
spoon
container

DIY Deodorant Step-by-Step

  1. Mix baking soda/cornstarch and arrowroot in a small bowl.
  2. Slowly add coconut oil until your mixture becomes a thick-enough paste (think kindergarten glue).
  3. Pour into container and store in the fridge until it sets.

Adapted from a recipe by Melanie Knight of Grace  & Pepper.
