An infusion of chamomile will, with frequent use, help soothe an irritated scalp and bring out the natural highlights in blond hair, making it a suitable gift for fair-haired friends.
DIY Chamomile Hair Rinse
• 4 teaspoons dried chamomile flowers
• 1 teaspoon marigold petals (optional)
• 1⁄2 teaspoon benzoin tincture (a natural preservative)
• Pretty bottles
Place the chamomile and marigold petals, if using, in a pan with 1 quart of water. Bring to a boil and simmer, partially covered, for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and leave the mixture to cool and infuse for 4 hours.
Place a sieve over a bowl and line with muslin. Strain the infusion and whisk in the benzoin tincture, then decant into cold, sterilized bottles using a funnel.
After shampooing and conditioning the hair, pour a cupful of the rinse over the hair, starting at the roots and massaging it through to the tips. Leave the rinse in the hair and style as normal. Makes approx. 30 oz, 3-4 applications
The hair rinse will keep in the fridge for up to a week.
