Wood-Mizer Products, Inc., the world’s leading sawmill manufacturer, has announced the winners of their 2011 Personal Best Contest, a long-standing tradition that recognizes Wood-Mizer sawmill owners who have fulfilled their dream projects by sawing their own lumber.
The contest, which occurs every two years, is open to any Wood-Mizer sawmill owners interested in competing for their share of the $20,000 in prize credits which is awarded. The 2011 contest marked the most contest entries Wood-Mizer has ever received.
Each entry was judged on creativity, originality, complexity, quality of workmanship, and overall use of the Wood-Mizer sawmill to complete the project. Grand Champions were named in each category, as well as First Places and Honorable Mentions.
Paul Simms of Ferrum, Virginia was the Grand Champion of Category 1, Homes and Major Structures. Paul decided to manage his natural resources by using some of his own timber to build a log home for his family. His LT40 Super Hydraulic sawmill made this dream a financially viable route.
Jeff Mahloch of Campti, Louisiana was the Grand Champion of Category 2, Small Homes & Cabins. Only having one arm, Jeff, with the help of friends and family, completed his timberframe and wood interior home with lumber he produced on his LT25 mill. All contest winners and entries can be seen at www.woodmizer.com/pb.
“Every year, we receive magnificent entries and are overwhelmed with the craftsmanship and dedication of our sawmill owners. Their projects are remarkable,” comments Dave Mann, National Sales Director for Wood-Mizer. Each of the winning projects was featured with an article in The Wood-Mizer Way magazine.
