Advancing their commitment to helping homeowners protect their lawns and gardens from damage caused by moles, Sweeney's, a leader in DIY pest control products, introduces the Deadset MoleTrap. The new trap is extremely easy-to-set thanks to an ergonomically designed, easy-to-grasp handle and a patented triggering system. Precision built, the Deadset trap is triggered by the slightest underground movement, effectively driving the spears into the ground and killing the mole.
"Trapping is the most successful way to get rid of moles, but unfortunately, most mole traps are notoriously difficult to set," says
Stew Clark, Sweeney's Director of Research. "Anyone who has ever struggled to set a mole trap will appreciate how effortless it is to activate the Deadset trap."
Before setting the Deadset Mole Trap, Clark recommends watering the lawn to bring the moles food source (earthworms and bugs) up close to the surface where the trap will be placed. The next step is to locate active tunnels. "Flatten tunnels by walking on them and then wait a day," instructs Clark. "If the tunnel rises up, it's active. This is where the trap should be placed."
When setting a mole trap it is important to make sure the spears can move freely through the ground when the trap is triggered. The Deadset
Mole Trap can be tested by pulling up on the handle to set the trap and then pushing down on the trap release lever located on the side of the trap. This will drive the spears into the ground. Raise and lower the trap until the spears are unobstructed by roots or rocks. Always use the release lever to trip the trap before moving it to another location.
"We are committed to the ongoing study of mole behavior," says Clark, who has been actively researching mole behavior and mole control solutions for more than a decade. "The challenge is that these creatures are 'invisible' due to lives spent in seclusion in underground burrows. Getting rid of moles requires patience but if you are persistent you will eventually achieve your goal."
