My husband and I have come up with a simple way of saving water at home. We use buckets to catch the cold water in the bathtub and rinse water in the kitchen sink before it turns hot. Then we use that water to do laundry or flush the toilet.

It’s a simple way of reducing the quantity of water needed to wash a load of clothes, and it’s amazing how fast we fill a 5-gallon bucket!

This practice is certainly a mindful way of respecting a precious resource; let your children (and their friends!) know it's good for the environment as well as our pocketbook. I also keep a pitcher by the sink and capture "grey" water for my plants. Sarah's right; so much is used so quickly.
