Get to know Steven Moize of the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
What are you going to speak about at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR?
I’ll be speaking about Rotational Grazing using Heritage Breeds on the ALBC Stage Sunday from 1 to 1:45PM.
What are you most looking forward to sharing with FAIR attendees?
My personal and positive experiences utilizing various heritage breeds of livestock in a rotational grazing system to the benefit of my farm, my soil, and my financial bottom line.
Tell us about your background with your particular topic.
I am a 7th generation farmer who inherited a legacy from my Grandfather of managing livestock on pasture only. That man has the best pastures and soil around these parts. So when I decided to come back to the farm I did so with a background in sustainable agriculture based on a foundation of permaculture. Permaculture principles and my Grandfathers wisdom allowed me to fully realize that animals are an integral part of a sustainable system. For that system to fully function there needs to be a healthy balance between animals and plants. I am passionate about being a steward of my livestock and my land, this passion translates into healthy pastures, woodlands, herds and flocks…all in a rotational balance.
What are you most looking forward to at the FAIR?
I am looking forward to seeing the Pacific North West for the first time ever and meeting a great community of like minded folks.
What advice do you have for attendees?
Bring your passion for sustainable living and ask lots of questions, we stand to learn a lot from each other.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have only one thing, what would you choose?
A solar still to make fresh drinking water.
Thanks, Steven. We’ll see you at the FAIR!
