In a recent issue of MOTHER EARTH NEWS, I read a sad story about predators destroying a family’s flock of chickens, despite safety measures to prevent such losses. Placing a radio in or near the chicken coop and leaving it on 24/7 might be another layer of protection against predatory animals. One rancher I know in Arizona safeguards his chicken coop by leaving the radio on all the time, and it works well for him. If electricity isn’t available, then a battery-operated radio would work just fine.
