Photo of the Week Great Protector

This scene reminds me of home. We use to have a couple of Great Pyrenees dogs that roamed around the farm during the day and out in the fields by night. This is the perfect image of what a Great Pyrenees is bred to do: guard livestock. While we didn’t have a ton of livestock for them to guard, they definitely kept watch over the farm. Whether that was warding off night predators or keeping strangers away.

Great Pyrenees dogs are one type of guard dog, but read Best Guard Dog for Your Homestead to find out the best dog for your homesteading needs. Plus, learn some tips and tricks about working with guard dogs.

Thank you CU photographer pink kayaks for submitting your photo this week. Check out pink kayaks’s Counting Sheep gallery to see more photos of the Great Pyrenees dogs protecting their sheep.

Keep submitting your photos every week to the CU photo-sharing site. And if you don’t have a CU Photo-Sharing account, sign up! This week’s photo of the week came from a new user. Next week your photo could be the photo of the week!

Each week the Photo of the Week is taken from that week’s submissions. You have to submit every week for a chance to be the Photo of the Week!
