New Regulations for Keeping Muscovy Ducks

Is it really illegal to keep domesticated Muscovy Ducks? Earlier this year, we explained in Keeping Muscovy Ducks is Now Illegal, that there was a misunderstanding that led to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) implementing new regulations regarding Muscovy ducks — both wild and domesticated versions. The problem is that there are significant differences between the two types of ducks, even though they’re the same species.

When the FWS Migratory Bird Program had more information, they realized that some additional revisions needed to be made, so they’ve proposed new language for the regulations. But before those take effect, there’s a period of public discussion. If you have something to say about this, now is the time to do so! You can submit comments until Dec. 30, 2010.
