Here's a tip for applying insect repellent, or any other liquid solution, to an animal's skin or fur.

Instead of using a sprayer or handheld sponge, try using a dishwashing wand with a sponge on the end of a hollow handle.

Fill the wand's handle with the repellent or other solution and allow it to soak the sponge. Then rub the sponge on the animal.

The advantages of this method over a sprayer are:

1. The wand will not clog.

2. It is less likely to scare the animal ? it may even believe it's being groomed.

3. The solution can be applied to the animal's face without getting it in the eyes.

Good idea. AS someone who used to teach Pest Mgmt.& Pesticide Applicator Training with Cooperative Extension, and who has several children, I would point out that the material being applied is less likely to get onto the person or clothing, so it is safer for the humans, as well! (Now I need to get that kitchen tool I have never owned - and won't use in the kitchen!)

Oh my, something so simple. Thanks, I will use it instead of a rag that I spray on.

Of course there are natural pest control products that can be used in the suggested applicator. Just look in any livestock supply catalog or on the shelf of your local feed store.

The contents of this article contraindict the title of the newsletter. Aren't there any natural "pesticides" and if there are you should have listed a few in the article. Otherwise it would be like me going to a Le Leche meeting and encouraging the use of formula. Something to think about :)~Amanda~
