When a house is being built, lots of debris and building scraps fall through the floor-register openings and end up in the ducts. Unless removed, the occupants risk breathing dangerous respiratory irritants such as fiberglass and wallboard dust. Have your ducts professionally cleaned, or if you do it yourself, be sure to use an N95 respirator to protect your lungs.
