As usual, summer has flown by! Fall is the busiest time of year for us. For lots of folks, it’s summer, but for us, it’s definitely fall! Chami

The Common Ground Country Fair is this weekend. We don’t show our goats, but then again at the Common Ground Fair there are no goat shows, just exhibits.

This is the most wonderful fair ever! It’s put on by MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) and it’s one of just a few organic fairs in the United States. Imagine going to a fair with no rides, no games, and no junk food, but, with enough to do to keep you busy for a full day or two!

Our girls are always happy to spend the three days being petted Xableand ooooo’d and awwwww’d at. They seem to know that they are the stars of the show.

Just as an aside, folks come to Common Grounds from all over the world and the attendance is normally around 60,000 for the three days! You can learn to make a canoe, snow shoes, bake bread, weave, spin, and much, much, more. All of the crafters, vendors, food sellers, and exhibitors are from Maine.

And, if you do come, please stop by and say hello!  We are in the goat barn (between the rabbits and the chickens!) and I would love to meet you.

Once we get home from Common Grounds we have only two weeks to get ourselves together for Fall Goat School! Throw in a farmers market here and there and we are busy!  I find myself thinking “one more week and I can finally rest” or “three more days and I can finally rest”…

But, with all of that being said, Goat School is always so much autumninmainefun, that the work getting ready is quickly and easily forgotten.

October in Maine is gorgeous! The weather is beautiful, not too hot, not too cold, it’s just right! Foliage is usually at its peak during the Columbus Day weekend, the apples are ready, crispy, crunchy, and juicy, Maine potatoes are featured at all the farm stands, and best of all, the food at Goat School is all you can eat, and it’s yummy.

Have I peeked your interest? There is still plenty of room in both Goat School and theSoap and Cheese making class, so click here and register.

If you can’t come, but want to learn more about goats, click here to see both books I have written.  “The Goat School Manual” has a lot of the information we cover in Goat School, and “Goat School: A Master Class in Caprine Care and Cooking” has both goat husbandry, plus lots of recipes using goat products, meat, cheese, and milk.
