While some cities allow their citizens keep backyard chickens without scruples, other places do not have such lenient policies. Jill Richardson explores various methods of convincing a hesitant city to allow backyard chicken-keeping in her blog How to Get Your City to Allow Backyard Chickens. Richardson urges readers to check their city codes, and if the subsequent discovery is grim, to appeal to the city council. One should be prepared to answer questions posed by neighbors and the local media about the benefits of keeping chickens. With determination and patience, a person has the power to persuade a resistant council to legalize chickens within city limits ... and if not, Richardson suggests a rebellious alternative.
