This is a time of year here in the mountains where words fail to describe autumn adequately.  Therefore as we look out our window and see mule deer bedded down next to the house, staking out that last vestige of tender grass that grows over the septic drain field, the herds of elk with the bulls bugling constantly, the carpet of yellow on the ground,  the aspen trees still in full color;  a photo is far better than trying to describe in words what life in the mountains is like this time of year.  I wish I could put a scratch and sniff in this blog so you could fully appreciate the smell in the air of autumn.  The aroma’s of canning indoors, the battle with pack rats trying to nest around the house, the chill in the air all make describing autumn beyond my ability to describe.  Above are a few of the pleasures of life at 9,750’ elevation in the Sangre de Cristo mountains.
