Day Two Starting Strong

Reader Contribution by Staff

The for is starting to clear here in the mountains at Seven Springs Resort and everyone is coming back ready and rarin’ to go for the start of the second day of the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR. Truth be told, my own excitement is centered on the noon presentation by Joel Salatin, entitled “Scrambled Brains: Understanding and Defeating Industial Foodists.” As a devotee of local foods, homemade and home-preserved foodstuffs, I’m looking forward to a rallying speech. It couldn’t come at a better time, and couldn’t be presented to a better crowd.

The attendees today are certainly able to see some great presentations to prepare their supply of skills to take on all sorts of new homemade food projects. From three presentations on canning, food drying and other food preservation methods, to delicious banana soda bread baking in a masonry wood oven and techniques and methods for raising chickens for egg and meat production, today’s FAIR attendees will have plenty of wisdom to put their food enthusiasm to good use.
