As a kid growing up, my mom had a jersey cow and she was a sweetheart. My job was the milking, my reward, the love of a beautiful animal, as well as cream puffs, etc. I often see a small herd of Belted Galloways when driving into the city and, with thoughts of buying a couple, investigated them on the internet. I would love the opportunity to win this heifer as she would be the start of a small herd here on the family farm.

My Belted Galloway cow is very gentle, and loves company. She allows her calf to be handled as she is very trusting. As for milking, she doesn't mind it a bit as long as you give her a little grain in a bucket. The problem is the calf drinks as much as she can produce, and the weeds she munches on in the pasture taint the taste of the milk. Keep in mind not all cattle will gentle down to the degree you desire. They can be dangerous, and you could get injured. It would be preferable if you could find a gentle calf or cow, perhaps one raised by a 4-H kid would be a possibility.

What a super idea! I have only recently become familiar with this breed, and absolutely love them. I raised 7 kids on a farm, had cows, beef cattle, horses, chickens, gupies, pigs, the whole nine yards!! Anyway, my daughter, Pam, her hubby, along with their daughter Joy and grandson, Angel, (4) just moved to a farm in Moses Lake, Wa., I would LOVE to win this heifer, put it on their farm to enjoy when I was there. They would love to have the heifer and know they would keep her until she passed on. They want a pasture companion for their horse, Fancy, who lost both of her 'running pals' when they moved from Colorado to Washington. The oldest of the three horses, Lucky, had to be put down and the other went back to a previous owner. Fancy is fun, inquisitive, and loves all other animals. Pam and Mike just love animals. Period. Especially one as special at this heifer............she would immediately become part of the family, which is what we're all looking for. (also hoping she'd be a good family milk cow). Thank you, Shirley Jean

I would LOVE to win this heifer. I moved from So. Calif to Kansas...talk about a culture shock. Then I met AND married a farmer. When my husband showed me his farm and said he had to "Combine" the fields I thought he just talked with an accent and asked what he combines them with. (Not knowing a Combine was a piece of farm equipment) I had never been on a farm or up close to a cow and he told me he'd buy me a calf because I wanted to milk a cow...well that hasn't happened so I would LOVE this heifer anyway so I can have a cow of my very own. Won't I be the talk of all my friends in good old Los Angeles. Hahhaha
