(Video) You Gotta Love Ray LaHood

Bicycle advocates became immediate fans of U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood the minute he hopped up on a table to project his support for biking and walking at the 2010 National Bike Summit. Since then, he has continued to impress, taking every opportunity to promote the benefits of active transportation.

This week, he put his pedals where his policies are and took a suggestion from some of his employees. On Monday morning, LaHood strapped on a helmet and rode with DOT bike commuters from the Washington Monument to the agency’s headquarters.

“Biking is a good way to get exercise, but it’s also a good way to get around Washington,” he said, making the point that cycling isn’t just for weekend recreation. Even better, the Secretary emphasized: “Everybody has the right to the roadways; certainly cyclists do.”

Well put, Mr. Secretary. Read more on LaHood’s Fastlane blog and watch the video below.
