For the New Year, Triton College has further fueled its quest in becoming an eco-friendly campus by installing electric car charging stations that are open to the community for use.
The charging stations, made possible through a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, are Triton’s latest initiative in supporting sustainability and providing cutting-edge technology on its campus.
Charging stations (240 volts) have been installed around campus and are marked with a green designated parking sign. Electric car charging rates are $1 an hour for Triton students, faculty and staff and $2 an hour for the public. Most electric cars take about four hours for a complete charge with a Level-2 charger, as compared to a Level-1 charging station (120 volts) which can double the time.
To use the electric car charging stations, customers must contact ChargePoint at the number listed on the charging stations to begin a session and/or setup a ChargePoint account, after which customers will receive their ChargePoint card in the mail. Visit ChargePoint.net for more information.
