Who cares about the Forest? from Franke James on Vimeo.

In this video just released by the Forest Stewardship Council, author and artist Franke James explores what each of us can do to ensure that we have healthy forests and strong communities for generations to come. James explains how the FSC works and introduces the major players (I was not aware that the timber industry had an equal voice with the treehuggers) in this entertaining, easy-to-understand narrative. You can watch or read it at FSCCanada’s site

Using wood products is one of the few things consumers do that's truly enviro-friendly. Trees are a crop, just like corn. No one laments the loss of the corn stalk at harvest time: there'll be another crop next year. So it is with trees, just on a longer time scale between harvests. It's been more than a century since loggers indiscriminately clear-cut and destroyed habitat. They now use scientific, ecologically sound methods ensuring enviromental sustainability and their own economic future.
