Too Much Stuff? Lend and Borrow Using

I have far too many books. I’ve purged several times and found good homes for some. I’ve learned that the used bookstores in Boulder, Colorado, where I live, are unbelievably picky when it comes to buying used books, which bothers me because these are good books, and I’m getting rid of them only because I’ve run out of shelf and wall space. Time to give a try.

This free, safe Facebook application lets me lend, give away, borrow or take everything from tools and books to DVDs, clothing and even skills with other Facebook friends. I share only with Facebook friends who have also signed up, and I can decide which friends see the items I’m offering. I can also post a request when I need an electric sander.

Facebook now has 500 million users, and the average person has 130 Facebook friends. We all have items that we’ll never make full use of—electric drills, for example, get used an average of 25 minutes over their lifetimes. Everyone doesn’t need to own a lawn mower, which gets used every week or so during the summer. And why the heck do I keep buying more books when I’ve run out of space for the ones I have? Swapping makes so much more sense.
