Building for the future, today – combining the best of historical wisdom and modern technology.
Quick! Get out your calendar, and mark the first Saturday in October, because there’s something happening in a community near you that you’re not going to want to miss. If you’re interested in sustainability or energy security, then the Solar Energy Tour may be the perfect way to spend your weekend.
For 17 years, the American Solar Energy Society has been hosting a national tour of solar buildings in communities across the United States. This tour is now the largest grass-roots solar energy event in the world. The Solar Energy Tour showcases homes and buildings powered by solar energy. Last year the Solar Energy tour promoted solar energy, efficiency and sustainability in more than 3,000 towns and cities. Tour-goers were able to visit more than 5,500 homes and buildings actively using solar energy, and were able to learn about the feasibility of solar energy within their own communities.
In addition to solar energy, this year’s tour is focusing on additional ways people can use green-building, efficiency, and energy-saving practices to increase the sustainability of buildings. More than 160,000 people are expected to attend this year's Solar Tour. You can check out the schedule to see if there is a tour near you, or register a tour yourself at ases.org/solar-tour.
