Almost 250,000 children—victims of debt bondage or forced labor—work illegally in the South Asian carpet industry. GoodWeave International, founded in 1994 to combat exploitation of child workers by certifying child labor-free rugs and providing educational opportunities to rescued and at-risk children, relies on importers, retailers and interior designers to spread the word about ethically made rugs.

The most recent new companies to join the GoodWeave program—Diane Paparo Studios, I + I srl, Inigo Elizalde Rugs, the Miller Davis Group, Modern Fever and Tania Johnson Design—represent the diversity of Goodweave’s participants, from an Italian design company that caters to international clientele to a family-owned business out of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

For a full list of retailers and brand names that carry GoodWeave certified rugs, check out GoodWeave’s Spotlight on Retailers and Showrooms page.
