For years, my kids have seen the commercials for memory-foam mattresses and begged me to buy them. My retorts that those mattresses are made from toxic chemicals that no one should sleep with fall on deaf ears. My kids still want memory foam mattresses. Now, maybe, they can have them.
Essentia today announced the world’s first natural, organic, no-VOC, petroleum-free memory foam mattress made from rubber tree sap, organic essential oils, plant extracts and water. The mattress offers all the benefits of memory foam without the toxic ingredients. The foam won’t outgas chemicals, lasts for 20 years and is 80 percent more breathable than conventional memory foam.
The mattresses are priced about the same as conventional memory foam mattresses, which means they’re not cheap. Essentia memory foam mattresses start at $1,495 and run as high as $4,537 for a bed with all the bells and whistles. While that may seem extravagant, I can’t emphasize enough how important a healthy mattress is to our overall well-being (just ask my kids). We spend a good eight hours a day in bed (if we’re lucky), and it’s the place where our bodies detox and rejuvenate. A good bed is not a luxury, and a chemical-laden bed is not an option. I’ll let my kids know I’m saving my pennies.
