Okay, so I am thirteen, and deciding to get goats to breed, show, and raise for milk and meat (with the economy going down the tubes, market prices are blowing up sky high...).  I am sooooo super stressed out though.  I have read several books about raising goats, but I am still clueless.  Can any goat owners give me some information about how much to feed, and any tips you have about picking a show goat and how to PICK a goat period? Thank you all so much for your time, and please reply soon!  My goats will be here by May 15th!

Well, congratulations and good luck!  I have four young goats that were given to me when they were only a few days old. I had never had goats and did not know anything about them. I just didn't want them to die so I brought them home and went to town and bought them milk replacement, which is rather expensive, by the way. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I just jumped in and asked all the questions along the way. Well, hind sight is 20/20 as they say. Ever heard that? Sometimes you don't know the right way until you experience the wrong way. Anyway, the frustrating part was that each person I talked to told me something different. I was pulling out my hair because everyone had me so confused. Needless to say, I've made a few mistakes but the goats are still alive, doing rather well, and are around 5 months old now. All I wanted to tell you is, read lots, do your homework before they get here, be prepared for their living arrangements, get your food and medicines ready, and talk to your local vet if you can. The vet may know of someone local who is reliable and trustworthy. Keep in mind that some people think they know everything, but they really don't and they could possibly give you bad advise. It's alot of work, money and time but you will probably be like me and feel that it's all worth it in the end.
