I looked into it a while ago and never pursued it further becuase you cannot license them in many states and if you could most insurance companies wont cover them.

One of the problems now that you face with building anything like this is that most of the time, the EPA will require you to put it through expensive testing and permits to get it licensed. I know that if you design a car, you have to prove through EPA tests that it complies with the emmissions laws. They are currently trying to get this law to cover even replacing a engine in a vehicle if your engine goes bad.

No need to build one. I have a 2004 Toyota Prius gas/electric hybrid. It is a fantastic car. I''m averaging 40+ mpg even with the cold weather. It is the lowest polluting car available in the US and also one of the most energy efficient.

wow thats low mileage jerry, I get 38 mpg on a 1989 Chevy s-10 even in cold weather.
Actually my 1976 pickup truck pollutes less than todays cars. I have found that if you keep your car tuned up, oil changed, tires inflated properly, you don''t pollute the air with it. My older vehicle before they put emmission control on it passes todays emissions tests.
