I've been running a portable sawmill for twelve years, and on my third machine.  I've found it easy to use, safe, and a great way of salvaging dead and dying trees, as well as trees from thinnings to create lumber both to sell and for projects around our farmstead in southwest MO.  My equipment consists of a Norwood MX34 sawmill, Ford 8N tractor, log arch, and chain saw.  I'd like to hear from others that are using small sawmills on the homestead, and how they're working out for you.

Below are a couple of photos.  I'm building a bath/laundry house that integrates rainwater and graywater. The second attachment shows a 27" diameter 8' white oak log from a tree that died this summer.  I love cutting logs this size, and watching good lumber come from a tree that might otherwise have been left to rot in the woods.
