I'd like to  grow some mushrooms but not sure how to do it. I read they need to be maybe under your house or in a dark place. They said you can enoculate some logs with the mushroom stuff it takes to grow them. Not sure but I have a friend and he is an old hippie and he said he gets his from the farm down the road. He said he just picks them in the cow pasture. I've never seen him cook with any of them but wonder if they are safe from a cow pasture? What kind are they? I like the shitake and button mushrooms and a couple of others. I don't want to get any bad ones if I pick em outside somewhere. Can't i just chop some up from the grocery store and plant them under the house? I love peppers onions and mushrooms cooked in lots of stuff. I want to try to grow some if I can find out how.

There is a great website run by a Mississippi Co-op that is teaching farmers to grow mushrooms as a side crop.  http://www.naturalmushrooms.com  They have a home kit and instructions, and the site is great for information about what type of environment you need to provide.  Hope that helps!
