Discover the history, breeding and development of heritage poultry in the United States. Frank Reese will tell his story of 60 years of working with standard breed poultry (often called "heritage poultry" today). Learn why it matters to the future of poultry worldwide and why we should be concerned about the genetic preservation of standard breed poultry.
Frank Reese Jr. is a fourth generation poultry farmer. His desire to breed to the American Poultry Association’s Standards of Perfection led to his first prize award at the Kansas State Turkey Championship in 1955. Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch was born of his desire to see heritage birds return to their rightful home, the dining room table. Once a hobby farm, this poultry production facility is located just west of Lindsborg, Kan.
