Workshop Description
Living with alpacas as a sustainable farming alternative has become one of the more interesting and creative ways to use small to large pasture land acreage. Alpacas wear a fabulous renewable product on their backs and are happy to share it with us on a yearly basis. If you dream of making a change toward a "green" country life, join Barbara Banks to learn the basics about these gentle and ancient creatures of the earth.
Speaker Bio
With little to no previous experience in raising any sort of livestock, Barbara Banks started a small family farm business in 1997, based on alpaca breeding and sales. She did this while working in information technology for a major aerospace company. Banks held leadership positions within 4-H for 6 years, while her daughter used the alpacas for projects. Over the years, Banks has learned about the gentleness of alpacas on the land and the many excellent qualities of their fiber and byproducts. Her primary goal is to share the knowledge she has gained to help others promote the use of alpacas as a sustainable farming alternative.
