Workshop Description

You have a huge garden, an orchard, poultry, some milk goats. You give away and barter food with family and friends. You want to quit your day job and devote yourself to your farming habit full-time eventually. Hold on now, partner! Have you analyzed your market, developed a business plan, worked up a budget, and figured out how to price your food properly? Do you want to create a sustainable AND economically viable business? Come to this workshop to hear how to get started in the business of farming.

Speaker Bio

She runs a small farm and food business consulting firm called Sustain Consulting and is starting a small homestead in Oregon with her husband, Jim Dunlop, and their daughter, Fiona. They previously operated TLC Ranch in Watsonville, Calif., where they raised organic, pastured livestock and poultry for direct markets across Northern California. Thistlethwaite serves on the board of Gorge Owned, a local economies nonprofit, and helps other local groups with grant-writing. Her other recent pursuits include making charcuterie, fermented foods, trail running, and writing a meat blog called Honestmeat.
