For those of us who haven’t gotten around to building a solar food dehydrator, I’ve discovered a great substitute: your gas oven with the pilot light on.

So far, I’ve dried apples, grapes and onions. I’ve found it’s also good for keeping crackers crisp and salt shakers running free. And it’s the perfect temperature for making yogurt.
