Country Lore: DIY Firewood Cart

These two ladies didn't need to buy a new firewood cart. With a few modifications, a surplus welding cart did the same job just as well.

Necessity is surely the mother of invention! If you need to, you can modify a welding cart into a firewood cart.

Because our budget did not permit purchasing a manufactured firewood cart, we designed our own using an inexpensive welder’s cart, hardware cloth, “zip strips,” and two steel shelf supports. It allows us to carry a greater volume of firewood to our porch without straining our backs.

The approximate assembly time was 30 minutes and the cost was less than $50. We found the welding cart at a building supply surplus store. We’ve been using the firewood cart effectively for three years.
