A solar stock tank can save electricity and money, and preventing water tanks from freezing saves lots of work in winter, too. Now we’re looking for the most effective and creative solar-heated waterer for chickens. If you’re creative and love to build useful projects, make a solar poultry waterer and try it out this winter.

To submit your design for a solar poultry waterer, e-mail a description and photo to “letters (at symbol) MotherEarthNews.com.” Mail hard-copy entries to “Solar Poultry Waterer” at Mother Earth News; 1503 SW 42nd St.; Topeka, KS 66609. We’ll publish the winning entry in the magazine, and the designer will win a free Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco incubator. Entries must be received by December 31, 2011, to qualify.

If you have poultry and hatch eggs — or are planning to in the future — you’ll love this incubator. I’ve hatched ducks, pheasant and chickens in my Octagon 20 Eco and have been thoroughly pleased with the results.
