It’s spring cleaning time, and I’m mining all my favorite sources for new ways to keep my house fresh, clean and healthy—naturally. I love this air-freshening spray that I found on the Herb Companion site. It’s a snap to make and leaves my home smelling heavenly.

Simple Air Freshener

4 drops essential oil of white thyme
6 drops essential oil of tea tree
8 drops essential oil of clove
2 teaspoons 190-proof alcohol
Filtered or distilled water

1. In a glass measuring cup, stir the oils into the alcohol. If the oils do not dissolve in the alcohol completely, add another teaspoon of alcohol. Add water to the 1/2-cup line. Pour the solution into a glass bottle with a spray nozzle.

2. To use, spray into the air, avoiding people’s faces.

If you don't mind the taste of cloves, it sounds like a couple sprays to the throat would also work as a breath freshener. By the way, in case anyone wonders about the alcohol, several brand names include Clear Spring or Everclear. It may not be readily available on the shelves at your local liquor store, but you can ask the counter attendant for it if you don't see it directly.
