Looking for a green, inexpensive bathroom remodeling idea? Using a reclaimed vanity (previously a small, free-standing cabinet) to create a unique sink and cabinet is a great idea. And the conversion process may be easier than you think. For a quick overview, here’s a video from the DIY Blog Cabin.

You could recycle kitchen cabinets in lots of ways, including using the drawers in your workbench or building a Book Nook & Window Seat.

My absolute favorite thing to do is to dumpster/reclaim discarded furniture and mosaic it. I have done tables of all types, stools, every type of chair imaginable, discarded clocks, mirrors, decorative screens, pots and containers of all kinds, etc. Don't stick just to the obvious- the cheap metal chairs with the padded fabric seats can be done as well. Just strip off the padding and fabric down to the board underneath and go to town. Keep in mind every surface doesn't have to be mosaicked- you can do parts of an item and then combine it with a decorative paint job. I have heard some complaints that you can't use reclaimed/used tiles for mosaicking but I find that to be entirely untrue. Almost all my projects combine a mix of discarded tile, broken dishes found in alleys and vacant lots and swanky purchased bits from mosaic supply stores. One legendary French mosaic artist covered every single piece of furniture and the interior and exterior of his entire house with mosaic art. There is no limit.
