How to Make a Spud Gun

Make a modern version of the classic air-powered popgun toy out of electrical conduit tubing and a wooden dowel.

MOTHER's version uses electrical conduit, a 5/8" dowel, a tricycle handgrip, a No. 8 × 3/4" wood screw with a matching 3/16" flat washer, several 5/8"-diameter felt bumper disks, and some electrical or duct tape.

The spud gun works through air pressure, using a sharp stroke of the handle to shoot the plug with a satisfying "pop."

This traditional homestead toy can be just as much fun today as it was many years ago.
