Make a Homemade Garden Kneeler

Last year, while I finished touching up a few spots on my driveway, I started to get up, paint pot in one hand and brush in the other. Suddenly, the old right knee gave out. Falling backwards, I quickly jammed my right foot back for balance, breaking my big toe. A few days later, I tried to think of something that might help support me as I tried to stand after kneeling. I fashioned this handy tool for the “kneeling impaired” gardener.

Parts (total cost about $4)1 15-inch piece of 3/4-inch plastic pipe for the leg; 2 5-inch pieces for the feet; 4 4-inch pieces for the toes; 4 3/4-inch “Ts” for the joints; 4 1-inch rubber crutch tips; Plastic pipe glue; Household glue.

To make sure you know where all the pieces belong, first put the project together without the glue. Then do it again with the glue, which dries fairly rapidly. Happy gardening!

sounds like a good... Intresting Idea... but I am a big guy with bad knees... What I find handy as a helper-uper is a plain old plastic 5 Gal. bucket... its wide enough to be stable. about the same hight as your neet tool and... I can place the tools I am using inside and then carry with the bail on the bucket... ever heard of KISS?

Hi Just looked at the Garden Getter upper. It is a good Idea except PVC can be brittle. I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt. I think using 1.5" PVC would be much safer than 3/4". It is more expensive but for safety sake I believe it would be worth it.

I made one of these for my Grandfather. Instead of the rubber caps I put regular pvc caps on the end and drilled a 1/4 inch hole all the way through and but 2 1/2 long lag bolts in for added grip in the garden.
