Fiber Cement Siding

Fiber-cement siding is durable and low-maintenance. Fine Homebuilding has produced an informative, short video for tips on Cutting Fiber Cement With a Circular Saw.

There’s some debate about how eco-friendly fiber cement is. It takes quite a bit of energy to produce the Portland cement that holds the boards together, and the cellulose sources may not be sustainable (although some products use recycled materials). But the final product should last a long time, so it’s a good option for siding.

Shirley, Thanks for your comment. HardieBoard is probably the most common brand of cement siding. In fact, many people refer to all fiber cement siding as HardieBoard. To find a dealer near you, visit their site: www.jameshardie.com/homeowner/locateADealer.py Home Depot sells third-inch, 8-foot-by-4-foot panels of HardiePanel siding, too. Here's another option: www.certainteed.com/CertainTeed/Homeowner/Homeowner/FiberCementSiding/ (I'm not necessarily endorsing one over the other.) Check with your local lumber yard or building supply store. They should have both fiber cement siding and metal roofing. Enjoy your building projects, and let us know how they turn out! Troy

I have been seriously thinking about using this siding on my mobile home but don't know where to find it. Could you give me some suggestions where to get it. Also need to get some metal for a roof on my porch don't know where to get it either. Or do you have any other suggestions. I really appreciate all the help you have given me in the past. I built a beautiful deck with mother earth's help. After the siding its solar panels. I'm an older lady with moderate skills but you make it simple I can handle it. Thanks
