Self-reliance and sustainability in the 21st century.

Build Your Dream

Interacting with our readers is one of the most enjoyable aspects of being a part of the Mother Earth News editorial staff. Every day I receive emails, letters and phone calls from folks who are making, building, planning and dreaming of a more sustainable lifestyle and looking for advice and encouragement.

In the 37 plus years of the magazine, we have published an amazing collection of handmade-home articles to inspire the would-be house builder. Recently, two people who incorporated our designs into their dreams contacted us. The first project was a timber-framed woodshed, from the August/September 1995 issue, which now nestles in a Massachusetts forest. And the other, the beginnings of a log home, was inspired by the July/August 1985 article, “Building the Traditional Hewn-log Home.”

You can read these articles and over 8,000 more free, sustainable-living articles on our Web site. So, start dreaming and building, and share your experiences by posting a comment, found at the end of each article.
