ECHO USA

North American dealers have ranked ECHO and Shindaiwa at Gold Level Status in The North American Equipment Dealers Association’s (NAEDA) annual Manufacturer Relations Survey.

“Achieving Gold level status is an honor for ECHO Inc. and for our North American distributors who work tirelessly to provide dealers with the support they need to grow their hand held product sales and profits each year”, said Mike Best, V.P. of Sales and Marketing at ECHO Inc.

Building on the successful 2013 launch of its first All-Wheel Drive (AWD) walk mower, Husqvarna — the world’s largest producer of outdoor power equipment — announces three new additions to its AWD lineup, offering dealers and users high-quality options at a variety of price points.

The new Husqvarna AWD models are:

• The HU675AWD, powered by a 675 Kohler engine, features a heavy-duty steel 2-in-1 cutting deck, a straight over mold bail system, an auto-choke and a mulch and rear bagging system.

• The HU725AWD powered by a variable speed 725ex with Ready Start auto-choke Briggs & Stratton engine, features a heavy-duty steel 3-in-1 cutting system allowing it to bag, mulch and side discharge.

• The HU725AWD/BBC features SingleStartTM which adds a blade brake clutch (BBC) feature to the HU725AWD model allowing the user to stop the blade to pick up debris or empty the bag, and a simple lever engagement turns the blade back on without needing to restart the mower.

Husqvarna AWD Walk Mower

The full line up of Husqvarna AWD walk mowers will be available beginning spring 2014.

Like the original HU800AWD model, each new Husqvarna AWD walk mower is designed to provide users with balance and power to all four wheels in hilly, uneven terrain and tough mowing conditions.* Each features a unique drive system and dual transmission, premium wheels with aggressive tread patterns to provide additional traction and maneuverability, a premium quick pin 4-point adjustment for level cutting height and a water hose connector for easy cleaning of the deck.

“Based on the positive feedback we received after the launch of the original AWD mower, we wanted to make the innovative technology widely available at different price points,” said Nick Schomer, Walk-Behind Product Manager, Husqvarna. “With three new pricing options and a variety of features, a wider range of users will be able to enjoy the benefits of All-Wheel Drive mowing technology with the launch of the new line.”

See Husqvarna’s AWD mowers in action in their new 30-second television commercial, which will run beginning February 23rd during the NASCAR Daytona race.

* OPERATE SAFELY: Mow across slopes, never up or down. Never operate on wet grass or excessively steep slopes.

Exmark Propane Mowers

Exmark has published a new propane mower white paper designed to help landscape maintenance professionals understand the considerations related to a move from gasoline to propane as a mower fuel, and make decisions that will offer the best potential for long-term cost savings.

Exmark Director of Marketing, Daryn Walters, said the Transitioning Mower Fleets to Propane white paper offers background on propane-fueled equipment, explores trends and economic factors in the marketplace and details options that exist for landscape maintenance professionals making a switch to propane.

“In today’s marketplace, propane mowers just make sense,” Walters said. “As consumer preference for Green products and services increases, propane mowers are a high-profile way for landscape professionals to demonstrate their commitment to the environment. Plus, today’s EFI-propane mowers reduce the cost of operation significantly when compared to carbureted gasoline models. The mowers become a competitive advantage.”

2013 market research conducted by Lawn & Landscape magazine revealed that 63 percent of homeowners responsible for decisions related to landscape contract services are influenced by a sense of environmental responsibility. Propane-fueled mowers have been shown to produce significantly fewer greenhouse gasses (GHG) than gasoline-fueled models. This means landscape maintenance professionals running on propane can keep working during the “Ozone Action Days” being enforced in a growing number of communities across the country.

Transitioning Mower Fleets to Propane includes perspective from a wide variety of sources, including profiles of landscape maintenance professionals using propane mowers today. It discusses the progression of propane engine technology, from the converted gasoline engines of yesterday, to the OEM-engineered commercial propane engines available today, which offer performance and efficiency enhancing technologies such as Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI).

The Transitioning Mower Fleets to Propane white paper is available for free download (Adobe PDF format) at Exmark. For more information about Exmark propane-fueled mowers, visit Exmark.

Beeswax pillar candle

Worker B adds to their growing collection of honeybee inspired products with new hexagonal pillar candles.  These candles are hand-poured using sustainably sourced 100% pure beeswax with all-cotton wicks.  A three-person company centered in Minneapolis, MN, Worker B found their start with local beekeepers and community-based farming.

"Beeswax candles have long been admired for their clean bright flame, soft honey aroma, and exceptional burn time," said Michael Sedlacek, co-owner and founding member of Worker B.   "We partner directly with chemical free beekeepers to find the cleanest beeswax and raw honey on the market.”

Honeybees generate wax scales from four pairs of abdominal glands. Collectively, worker bees produce 500,000 wax scales, consume eight pounds of honey, and fly 150,000 miles to create one pound of beeswax.  The Worker B candles contain twenty ounces of beeswax, with a burn time of over 70 hours.  A letterpress printed and laser cut paper sleeve completes the package.

Worker B ingredients come direct from the hive, forming the base for their Skincare, Candle and Varietal Raw Honey collections.  Worker B performs all aspects of their business from product concept to formulation, from production to fulfillment.  Now in their fourth year, Worker B still maintains a series of their own beehives and continues their hands-on approach to ingredient sourcing that sets them apart from traditional skincare and lifestyle brands.

Worker B products are available at select retailers and online.

Kimberly and Katydid wood stoves by Unforgettable Fire LLC

Although the Kimberly™ gasifier wood stove manufactured by Unforgettable Fire, LLC, was originally developed for use on a boat, it soon found a niche in other tight spaces, such as off-grid cabins, backyard shops, yurts, RV’s, and for emergency preparedness, due to its petite waistline and 56-pound portability. Producing up to 42,500 BTU's/hour, the Kimberly™stove can heat up to 1500 square feet of well insulated space, helping families to offset rising costs for natural gas and propane.

The Kimberly™ gasifier wood burning stove is a unique heating solution in that it is UL-listed to vent with 3-inch stainless steel double-wall pellet stove pipe. If you’ve ever priced Class A chimney pipe, required for any other certified wood stove, you’ll understand the full advantage of this feature to your family’s checkbook. The Kimberly™ stove also requires just 6-inches of clearance, far less than other wood stove choices.

Furthermore, Kimberly’s gasification technology squeezes every possible BTU from your fuel, while producing less emissions. This frees more time for family by requiring less time for cutting wood. During EPA testing, Kimberly™ produced a mere 3.2 grams/hour particulate as compared to the 7.5 grams/hour allowed by the EPA for non-catalytic wood stoves, and the 4.5 grams/hour allowed by the State of Washington, the toughest in the nation. More heat from less trees, with less emissions? Truly, Mother Nature wins, as well!

Kimberly™ came to inventor, Roger Lehet, by Divine inspiration after he lost his wood stove shop of 25 years in the down-turned economy. "Along with our business, my wife and I lost our cars, home, retirement savings, and (nearly) our minds," Lehet states. "We took refuge on a 30-foot boat in the middle of the Puget Sound near Vashon Island, Washington, where I grew up." Winter storms brought raw, wet cold and 80 mph driven rain storms; Lehet was desperate to keep his wife and 9-year-old daughter warm and dry.

Lehet next engineered his Katydid™ wood stove. "Many people wrote to tell us how much they love our Kimberly™ wood stoves" Lehet said, "but they begged us to build a wood burning stove that would produce more heat, at less cost, for bigger homes." During preliminary in-house testing Katydid™ promises to deliver up to 85,000 BTU's/hour, while heating up to 3000 square feet of well-insulated space.

To date, the Lehets are the epitome of the American dream, having bootstrapped themselves from their first prototype to an international sensation in just a few years. Nevertheless, the proposed EPA emissions standards, now on the table, will force Roger Lehet back to the drawing board to push Katydid’s performance even further. Therefore, investors are needed for additional R&D and certification testing, which Unforgettable Fire, LLC currently lacks.

In addition, Lehet needs investment capital to bring his optional add-on accessories to market, which remain in prototype. Such accessories would enable people to live off-grid by choice, long-term, or by default, during unplanned power outages. "Outfitted with our optional add-on accessories, our Kimberly™ and Katydid™ wood stoves would provide heating solutions with the means to produce electricity, cook and bake, as well as produce hot water for in-floor heating," Lehet stated. "The Kimberly™ and Katydid™ wood burning stoves are truly an on-grid and off-grid living solution."

The Kimberly™ and Katydid™ wood stoves are manufactured in the United States from American made feedstock, and Windex® is the only chemical that is used. Kimberly™ wood stoves and Katydid™ wood stoves can be shipped to your door within the continental United States.

For readers of MOTHER EARTH NEWS, Unforgettable Fire, LLC is offering a $300 credit towards a custom venting kit for Kimberly™ stove orders placed directly with the home office through June 30, 2014.  Use promotion code MEN300 to take advantage of this special offer.  Visit Unforgettable Fire, LLC for more information about the Kimberly™ or Katydid™ wood burning stoves, or call 1-855-872-7868 to place your order today.
