Background and Personal History: Rachel was born in the UK and grew up in rural Ontario where she now lives with her husband on their 300-acre, century-old farmstead. They free range sheep, goats, livestock dogs, and chickens and grow vegetables. Rachel operates her farm market, Irish Hills Farm, selling their all-natural meats, her delicious baking, preserves, goat cheese and homespun art wools.
Rachel is currently a member of the Kawartha Butter Tart Tour. Rachel and her husband, Tim, were named runners-up Homesteaders of the Year 2012 by Mother Earth News and awarded the Agricultural Leadership Award by Peterborough County in 2011.
Current Projects: Spinning and dyeing wool from her sheep, making goat cheese, quilting, gardening
Other Fun Facts: Rachel loves nature, the outdoors and all animals — especially her beautiful livestock guardian dogs, Bear, Dino and Yukon that live 24/7 with the farm animals, warding off wolves, bear and coyotes. Rachel enjoys hand spinning her sheeps’ wool in the evenings to relax.
