Keynote speakers set for inaugural Mother Earth News Fair
Sustainable-living event books luminaries from across the environmental movement
TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 9, 2010) — In the wake of multiple environmental catastrophes this year, the keynote speakers at the Mother Earth News Fair will bring an optimistic look at the core factors of – and solutions to – many of today’s ecological and social justice issues.
“Some of the brightest minds across the environmental movement have joined us to create a Fair that inspires and entertains as well as educates,” says event manager Andrew Perkins.
Keynote speakers include:
- Perry Jones, director, U.S. country program, Heifer International
- Amanda Little, author and environmental journalist
- Frances Moore Lappé, author, democracy advocate, and world food and hunger expert
- Dr. Gary Nabhan, local food advocate
- Richard Schrader, New York legislative director, Natural Resources Defense Council
- Bryan Welch, publisher and editorial director, Ogden Publications
The Mother Earth News Fair also will offer more than 200 sessions on organic gardening, renewable energy, small-scale livestock, green building and remodeling, DIY projects, real food, natural health, green transportation and related topics. Regardless of skill level, attendees can find workshops to match their comfort level.
Dozens of experts, including authors, academics, members of sustainable-living organizations, Mother Earth News staff, and editors from sister publications Grit, Natural Home, The Herb Companion and Utne Reader, will lead the sessions.
In addition to workshops, the Fair will host a seed swap, artisan food tastings, children’s projects, live music, vendor, livestock and craft demonstrations, a green shopping pavilion, local and organic food, and resort activities.
Tickets cost $15 for a one-day adult pass or $25 for both days. Children 17 and under are free. To order, go to http://tickets.7springs.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=69 or call (800) 234-3368.
