After years of trial and error with methods to keep slugs from eating my vegetable garden plants, I finally discovered a workable method for a slug repellent. The discovery was an accident: I was sitting on the ground under a tree and leaned back on my handouch! The dry, sharp pine needles poked into my palm.

I sprinkled the dry needles around each plant and did not have any more losses due to slugs.

Well, pine needles didn't work for my slug problem. We bought a house this spring and I was afraid that deer and rabbits would be eating my vegetables, but instead it turned out that slugs would be a much bigger problem. We have pine trees around our lot so I have covered the ground around strawberries, peppers, beans, and tomatoes with pine needles to prevent weeds form growing. It helped with the weeds, but bean, pepper and strawberry plants are still getting eaten by slugs :(. I just read about using coffee, so this is my next tactic.
