Mountain Rose Herbs, the 2008 People’s Choice for Green Business of the Year, does more than sell organic spices and teas. This Eugene, Ore., company runs chemical-free facilities and uses recycled materials to ship its products. With 60 employees, the company generates about 80 gallons of waste per month (about the same as an average four-person household), and is working toward a goal of zero waste. They’ve committed to only negotiating with farmers who have clear labor standards and humane conditions for their workers.
