California Cleans Its Clothes

Did you know your dry cleaner probably uses perchloroethylene, a toxin linked to several types of cancers, to clean your finer threads? But now California is the first stae to throw in the towel. Businesses there may not purchase perchloroethylene-dependent machines after 2008, and those already in place must phase out by 2023. Thankfully, perchloroethylene isn't the only option right now for the rest of the country. For a list of eco-friendly dry cleaners by state, visit www.epa.gov/dfe/pubs/garment/gcrg/cleanguide.pdf.
