Ontario announced plans for a program that will encourage the use of alternative energy by paying 37 cents (42 cents Canadian) per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to producers of solar power — more than seven times the Canadian province’s average price for residential electricity. Over the next decade, this program will add enough renewable energy to power 250,000 homes. Other countries offering progressive rates for solar power include Austria, Germany, Italy and Spain. With so many other countries now offering great incentives, when will the United States do the same?
