Country Lore: Low-cost Porch Light
Use a battery-powered push light to light porch.

When we returned home after dark, we either fumbled with the keys in the dark or had to leave the porch light on. One was a pain in the neck; the other, a waste of electricity. Our solution was to install a battery operated push light, available at discount stores. One small light, installed at the top of the door jam between the front door and the screen door, provides enough light to illuminate the key ring as well as the doorknob.
